Valentina Perez-Garcia

Undergraduate Researcher

About Me

Hi! I'm Valentina Pérez García (she/they), a marine scientist from Puerto Rico with a deep passion for ocean science, conservation, and equity in STEM. I recently earned my B.S. in Biology from Universidad Ana G. Méndez (UAGM), with research that bridges ecology, acoustics, and marine conservation.

From investigating soundscapes in coral restoration projects with Sociedad Ambiente Marino to exploring sustainable approaches to ocean monitoring, my work centers on using science as a tool for sustainability and inclusion. I’ve participated in programs like the IMET internship in Baltimore, which helped shape my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Marine Science.

Beyond research, I served as President of the ACS Student Chapter at UAGM and represented my peers on the Student Council, and I remain dedicated to mentoring and community outreach. My ultimate goal is to help diversify academia and contribute to equitable marine conservation through research, education, and policy.
