Valentina Perez-Garcia
Undergraduate Researcher

About Me
Hi! I’m Valentina Pérez García (she/they), a undergraduate biology student from Puerto Rico with a deep passion for ocean science, conservation, and equity in STEM. I’m currently a senior at Universidad Ana G. Méndez (UAGM), Gurabo, majoring in Biology and actively engaged in research that bridges ecology, acoustics, and marine conservation.
From investigating soundscapes in coral restoration projects with Sociedad Ambiente Marino to exploring sustainable approaches to ocean monitoring, my work centers on using science as a tool for sustainability and inclusion. I’ve participated in programs like the IMET internship in Baltimore, which helped shape my desire to pursue a Ph.D. in Marine Science.
Outside of research, I serve as President of the ACS Student Chapter at UAGM, have represented students on the Student Council, and dedicate time to mentoring and community outreach. My ultimate goal is to help diversify academia and contribute to equitable marine conservation through research, education, and policy.
